We are delighted to be able to offer a range of British Sign Language courses here at Deaf Connections. Anyone with a keen interest in learning BSL can apply for these introductory courses.

 

Course Information

Signature BSL Level 1

Duration: approx 20 Weeks

Available Days

Tuesday: 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Thursday: 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Venue: Deaf Connections, 100 Norfolk St, Gorbals, Glasgow, G5 9EJ, Room 1

Cost: £350 (includes registration & examination fees)

Start Dates: Tuesday 19th August 2014, Thursday 21st August 2014

Candidates enrolling for this course should normally have completed the Introduction to BSL although this is not essential. The course will give a deeper insight into the richness of BSL and more fluency will naturally take place as the candidate progresses. Achievement of this module will involve personal, social and formal topics giving the candidate a broader vocabulary. On completion the candidate will be able to hold a conversation with a user of BSL in a number of topics and so will also find that they have gained more confidence using BSL.

Available Funding

All courses are approved by Skills Development Scotland (formerly ILA Scotland). Skills Development Scotland is a Scottish Government scheme that can help pay for the cost of learning. It's for people who are 16 or over and living in Scotland. If your income is £22,000 a year or less, or you are on benefits, you can apply for a learner account from Skills Development Scotland that will give you up to £200 a year towards the cost of this course. Practice Service
With all our courses we offer a practice service where students will be able to have 1 to 1 online BSL tutorials with their tutor at home, via webcam using either our Sign On Screen facility, Skype or Facetime. Each student will be allocated a time-slot when their practice session will be.
