Deaf Connections provides free lipreading classes to deafened and hard of hearing adults. Some classes are based in our office in the Gorbals area of Glasgow with other classes in Clydebank, Hamilton, Shettleston and the Vale of Leven.

Who are lipreading classes suitable for?
Any adult with hearing problems, whose first language is English, may benefit from a lipreading class delivered by one of our qualified tutors. Even people who already have some lipreading ability will benefit as our classes offer much more than learning to lipread.
What can you learn in lipreading?
Our classes will show you how to recognise lipreadable voice patterns and help you develop your lipreading skills using a wide range of techniques.
In addition, our classes will:
- provide information and advice to help you understand the type of deafness you have, what caused it and how best to manage it.
- provide information and advice on how to effectively use hearing aids (or bone anchored aids or cochlear implants) and how to care for and maintain them.
- provide information and advice on technology and environmental aids that can be used to improve communication.
- provide information about useful services, activities and facilities that could help you including advice on suitable skilled communication support providers.
- show you how to use fingerspelling and gesture as a communication aid and to help with your lipreading.
help you overcome difficulties in social situations by sharing experiences, identifying solutions and giving tips to boost your confidence. - show you communication tactics and tipc to help you communicate better and to help you show other people how to communicate effectively with you.
How do I join a lipreading class?
Classes are available all year round. You can choose a class from our list (see link at top of page) and simply turn up - its as easy as that. You are welcome to contact us to check that your preferred class is running on the day you wish to start (classes do have breaks to allow tutors to take holidays and rest breaks) or arrange an appointment to discuss your needs to help you make the right choice.
